Hire a car and drive at your own pace looking out on picturesque mountains. See the Car Rental section for contact details, or try car rental brokers over the web who buy in bulk and on-sell, which is often a cheaper way to do it. Morzine is about an hour’s drive away from the airport depending which route you take – click here for directions to Morzine.
Picturesque, but a bit of a slog; taking luggage this way would strike us as somewhat unfeasible! However, to minimise your carbon footprint in this way and if you have some suitable touring pannier bags, we’d recommend the route that takes you round the lake to Thonon-les-Bains, beautiful in both Winter and Summer, there is a variety of activities available both on and off the lake.
There is a fairly time-consuming route follow the signs up through the valley to Morzine. This is a very picturesque journey, particularly when you head up through the tree-lined gorge, but of course you’ll need to be pretty confident of your fitness levels to get up there. To cut it a bit shorter you could take the train from Geneva to Thonon-les-Bains and bike up from there or if you prefer regular bus transfers are available.
